
- Open Photoshop
- Select a picture to edit and drag over the Photoshop Icon on the dock
- Crop as necessary
- Use the pen tool to extract the image from the background



- When you have a selection press +J to duplicate the the selection
- Desaturate +U
- Adjust the brightness and contrast (Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast) until you get something dramatic

- Apply the Cutout filter with the following settings:

- Press +L to adjust levels. Move sliders until your photo has black, roughly 3 shades of gray, and white.

- Apply the cutout filter again. This time increase the edge simplicity. You want to abstract and simplify the photo.
- Adjust the levels again to further simplify

- Adjust your canvas by doubling both dimensions and moving the original image to the upper left corner

- Turn on rulers if they are not on already(+R)
- Drag two guide lines to divide document into four equal parts

- Click on the folder icon in the layer palette to create a set. Place the manipulated layer into a set by dragging it onto the set. Rename the set "frame 1". Your layers window should now look like the image shown below.

- Create a new layer underneath the manipulated layer and name it "bg1". Make sure it is in the "frame 1" set. Press while clicking on the new layer icon.
- Select the rectangle tool and draw a rectangle for the background

- Right or CTRL click on the "frame 1" set and select Duplicate Layer Set.... Do this 2 more times so you have a total of 4 sets.
Rename all your sets to "frame 2", "frame 3", and "frame 4".
Now move all the sets into the right positions. If you hold down Shift as you drag the sets, it contrains the movement to only vertical or horizontal
- Give each of your backgrounds color by double-clicking on the shape in each bg1

There are two ways to color your images
First way
- Create a new layer between your image and bg1
- Holding down click with your mouse between the two layers in the layers palette
- Pick a fill color and fill the selection
- Click on the image layer and change the blend mode to screen

Second way
- Repeat all the steps of method 1
- Click on the image layer and press +E to merge the layers
- Create a new layer on top of the colored image layer
- Holding down click with your mouse on the colored image layer in the layers palette
- Make sure the top layer is selected
- Pick a fill color (maybe the opposite color to the one you have) and fill the selectionin the top layer
- Change the blend mode to multiply

- Using either method repeat for all sets
- After you have completed all sets, create a new layer on top and press +OPTION+SHIFT+E
- Experiment with +U to change your image

- Add filter>Texture>Texturizer select canvas 50%, 1 top
